Your frequently asked questions about air diffusers

Diffusers are essential in a ventilation system as they ensure air is uniformly distributed and improve thermal comfort, while also providing optimum efficiency. They also play an important role in the system’s design, as they fit perfectly within the space and provide an attractive aesthetic.

The main differences between these types of diffusers are the following:

  • Diffusion grilles: These provide simple and direct air diffusion, and are often used for purely functional applications with minimal aesthetic considerations.
  • Linear diffusers: These provide long-distance, uniform air diffusion. They are ideal for modern spaces with specific architectural considerations, allowing for subtle integration above ceilings or under floors.
  • Square or circular diffusers: This allows for more targeted diffusion, with circular diffusers often used for effective radial diffusion and square diffusers used for a more uniform distribution with a more structured design.

When it comes to aesthetic considerations, linear and square diffusers are often chosen for their modern look and their ability to fit in within contemporary environments, while circular diffusers can add a distinctive aesthetic touch.

Swirl diffusers are another option. These diffusers offer rapid and highly uniform air distribution, improving thermal comfort. They are also flexible when it comes to aesthetics, and can blend into a wide variety of architectural designs.

The Plumbox textile plenum is light, compact and easy to install. As such, it is suitable for use in spaces with reduced heights. It is universal and compatible with the majority of square diffusers and can be adapted for duct diameters of up to 315 mm.

Their expertise is needed to ensure optimal integration of ventilation and air conditioning equipment to suit the building’s specific requirements. HVAC engineers leverage their knowledge to design systems that effectively balance thermal comfort, energy efficiency and performance all while meeting any unique architectural or regulatory requirements.

For large rooms, we recommend long-range diffusers and/or diffusers with a high induction rate. These include long-range nozzles, linear diffusers, diffusion ducts and swirl diffusers.
